Amazon has implemented additional requirements for the footwear category to improve the overall shopping experience for shoes on Amazon. Zentail supports all the specific attributes required by Amazon for shoe listings and has built logic and automation to make managing your products, while staying compliant, as simple as possible.

Below you can learn more about the changes that are being made and what you need to do to make sure your data is compliant with the requirements.

What Changes Are Being Made?

Amazon is requiring more data from sellers who hope to successfully list footwear on Amazon.com.  This includes fields like Age Range Description, Footwear Size Class, and more.  There are also changes to how some fields must be formatted.  For example, Size (now Footwear Size) will either be formatted as:

Numeric: 7, 7.5, 8, etc.
Numeric range: 7-8, 8.5-9, etc.
Alpha: One-Size, Small, X-Large
Alpha Range: Small-Medium, Medium-Large
Age: 6 months, 2 years
Age Range: 6-12 months, 2-3 years

There are select valid values for footwear size.  So while "7" and "7.5" may work, "Seven" and "7 1/2" do not.

How to Manage This on Zentail

While Zentail has made the necessary changes to send the correct product attributes to Amazon, be sure that you have each of these mandatory attributes (Target Gender, Amazon Shoe Size, Size Unit, Amazon Shoe Size Width and Age Range) and your Smart Type filled out with a valid value as explained below.   Each of these attributes is available in QuickEdit and is importable/exportable, making it easy to export your footwear SKUs with the correct fields, make the edits to the download spreadsheet and import back into Zentail.   We've set up a QuickEdit view to help you get started!

Amazon Required Attributes

This table shows all of the attributes now required by Amazon. If the five required attributes (see above) are correctly filled out in Zentail all the other attributes below will be inferred by Zentail's code and included in the product data feed, making it simpler for you to get your listing up on Amazon!

1. Gender

Please enter one of these valid values:

  • Women

  • Men

  • Boys

  • Girls

  • Unisex

2. Amazon Shoe Size

This can be a single value (i.e. 8.5, 6, or Small) or a range (i.e. 7-8, Medium-Large) and in combination with Size Unit indicates the size standard.

Valid examples:

  • 7

  • 12.5

  • 7-8

  • X-Large

  • Medium-Large

Invalid examples:

  • seven

  • 12 us (M)

3. Size Unit

This new attribute is combined with size to give complete size information. Use this field to denote unit, or standard, size value. The valid values for Size Unit are:

  • months

  • years

  • us footwear
    - for numeric sizes or size ranges such as 9.5 or 6-7

  • other
    - default value if the field is left blank

4. Amazon Shoe Size Width

The valid values for Shoe Width are:

  • xxx_narrow

  • xx_narrow

  • x_narrow

  • narrow

  • medium

  • wide

  • x_wide

  • xx_wide

  • xxx_wide

5. Age Range

The valid values for Age Range are:

  • Up to 2

  • Ages 3-5

  • Ages 6-8

  • Ages 9-10

  • Ages 10-12

  • Ages 13+

  • All Ages

Note:  For adult sizes, choose All Ages.

6. Smart Type

Filling in your Smart Type is always a good idea on Zentail.  In this case, there's the added bonus of Zentail inferring the proper Department as well as automatically completing the complex mapping to comply with Amazon's footwear requirements.

You can learn more about Smart Types in our article: How to Categorize your SKUs with Smart Types/Amazon Item Types.

All other required attributes will be inferred by Zentail based on the attributes above!

Converting Your Data to Make It Compliant

For existing listings, you’ll want to use the data in the Size field to populate the new attributes listed above, splitting out the width and size unit into their own fields.  Here are two examples to illustrate:

If your product is a men’s shoe with Size “7.5 (M) US”, the new attributes would be filled out as follows:

  • Gender:  Men

  • Amazon Shoe Size:  7.5

  • Amazon Shoe Size Width:  medium

  • Size Unit:  us footwear

  • Age Range:  All Ages

If your product is a child’s shoe with Size attribute “7 M US Big Kid”, the new data fields would be:

  • Gender: Boys

  • Amazon Shoe Size: 7

  • Amazon Shoe Size Width: medium

  • Size Unit: us footwear

  • Age Range: Ages 10-12

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How will these changes affect my shoe listings on other sales channels?

A:  Because the Size attribute can remain the same (Amazon channel attributes are being used), these changes will not affect your shoe listings on other channels.

Q:  My shoes use European/UK sizing.  What value should I use for Size Unit?

A:  In this case, you'll need to provide the comparable size in the US footwear size system.

If you are a shoe seller, be sure to adhere to these requirements to make sure you don't run into any listing errors when listing shoes on Amazon.  Happy Selling!
