Sometimes you want a product group to look different on Walmart than it does in Zentail. Listing splits let you keep one group in Zentail and publish it to Walmart as several smaller listings.
This article covers Walmart only. For Shopify and BigCommerce, see How to Manage Different Variations Using Listing Splits.
What is a listing split?
A product group in Zentail varies on one or more attributes, called pivots. For example, a shirt group might vary on Color and Size.
By default, Zentail publishes the whole group to Walmart as one listing, with a variation for every Color and Size combination.
A split breaks that group into separate Walmart listings on one of its pivots. Split the shirt group on Color, and you get one Walmart listing per color. Each of those listings still varies by Size. Each one is its own variant group on Walmart.
Your product group in Zentail does not change. The split only affects how the group is published to Walmart.
Opening the Listing Splits page
Open the product in the product editor.
Go to the Walmart channel.
Click Advanced Options.
Click Listing Splits.
Splits are set per Walmart storefront. If you sell on more than one Walmart storefront, open the page from the storefront you want to change.
Choosing how to split
The Pivots panel lists each attribute the group varies on, with how many distinct values it has.
Each pivot has a checkbox labelled Keep as variations in one listing:
Checked (the default): the pivot stays inside one listing, with a variation for each value. The hint under the checkbox reads, for example, "1 listing, 4 variations".
Unchecked: Zentail publishes one listing per value of that pivot. The hint reads, for example, "Splits into 4 listings".
In the shirt example, uncheck it for Color and leave it checked for Size. You get one listing per color, each varying by size. Uncheck it for both, and every Color and Size combination becomes its own listing.
If you have used splits on Shopify: this checkbox replaces the old "Is Pivot" checkbox and works the same way. Uncheck it to split on that attribute. Leave it checked to keep the attribute as variations in one listing.
Previewing and saving
As you change the checkboxes, the Preview panel shows one card for each Walmart listing your choice would produce. Each card shows the listing's title, its split values, and the SKUs in it. A card marked New listing is a listing that doesn't exist on Walmart yet.
If some variants have no value for the attribute you are splitting on, a warning tells you. Those variants are grouped together into a listing with no value for that attribute.
Nothing changes until you save. Click Cancel to throw away your changes.
When you click Save, Zentail asks you to confirm. The dialog tells you how many listings saving creates and how many it retires, and names the listings it retires.
When you click Save splits, the change is real. Zentail creates the new listings and publishes them to Walmart, and retires the listings named in the dialog.
How titles are built
Each split listing takes the group's title and adds its split values in parentheses. If a group titled "Super Soft Shirts" is split on Color, the blue listing is titled "Super Soft Shirts (Blue)". If it is split on both Color and Size, one listing is titled "Super Soft Shirts (Blue, Small)".
When there is more than one split value, they are listed in order of the attribute's name.
If a variant's title already ends with its own values in parentheses, for example "Super Soft Shirts (Blue, Small)", Zentail doesn't add them a second time.
A Walmart title override always wins. If you set a title override, Zentail publishes it exactly as written, with nothing added.
Only titles get split values added. Descriptions are not changed.
