When selling on your own Shopify webstore, you likely have a set of custom categories for your products. To push SKUs from Zentail to Shopify, you need to assign those categories within Zentail. This article shows you how you can assign your SKUs to your custom Shopify cateogies through the Zentail user interface or by using the import / export feature.

You can assign SKUs to an unlimited number of different Shopify categories on Zentail.  There are two ways that Shopify does categories, manual collections and collections that filter by tags.

1. Manual Collections

Using the Zentail User Interface

  1. Select the SKU you would like to categorize
  2. Click EDIT, navigate to CATEGORY & DESCRIPTION
  3. Go to the Shopify Custom Category Field, select the Browse icon
  4. Select the appropriate category for this SKU
  5. Click the check-mark icon to Save!

Using the Import / Export Feature

In order to do this, you'll need to know the numerical code for each of your Shopify categories.

Create a custom template or Quick Edit view that includes the attribute(s) for your Shopify Category.

Create a csv that includes the numeric Shopify Custom Store Primary Category. Keep in mind you can enter multiple categories as long as they are separate by a comma. Save this csv and import it into Zentail!

Note: Shopify categories regularly sync to Zentail.  If you've created one recently but don't see it in Zentail yet you can click the reload all categories button on your Shopify integrations page.

2. Tags and Smart Collections

Your tags in Zentail are used to increase the searchability of your products.  They also get sent to Shopify for the same reason. Within Shopify, tags can create smart collections.  You may not want all your tags to be collections on Shopify.

Our recommendation is to avoid filtering by tags on Shopify and group your products based on the collections and sub-collections you create.  The other option is to add lines to your template that filter out the tags you want to use.  This is also covered in the Shopify help article linked above.
