How to use Import / Export to make Bulk Edits to Catalog and Inventory

This article describes how to use the Import / Export features for bulk creation and editing of SKUs, inventory and bin locations.

Import / Export is a powerful and fast way to accomplish many tasks including:

  • Adding new SKUs

  • Editing existing SKUs

  • Listing and de-listing SKUs for specific channels

Different Report Types & Sample Template Ideas

Below is a list of a few templates you may consider creating for your own catalog:

Report Types:

  • Product Report Templates

  • Order Reports => Custom Sales Order Reports and Customer Sales Order Line Item Reports

This document contains a list of templates with fields you may want to include when updating product information.

Step 1: Creating a new Product Report template

  1. Click the Create Custom Template menu tab.

  2. Give your template an identifier in the Template Name field.

  3. Use the Add Column button to add a column to your report

  4. Use the adjacent search tool to find the attribute you’d like in that column. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each attribute you want to include in your report.

  5. Click the Submit button to save your template.

Step 2: Export Zentail Data

Now that you've created a template, it's time to download that data. First, go to Export > Product, and then follow the steps below.

  1. On the left-hand side under Select Report Type, find and click on the template you created for your export to select it.

  2. On the right-hand side under Download Report, check off the options you prefer for your export and then click the Download button to start the report.

  3. You will then see the status of your report and access it by clicking the Download arrow icon.

Note: Go to Export History any time you want to access your previous reports.

Step 3: Importing Data into Zentail

Now that you've downloaded data from Zentail, added new SKUs or edited existing SKUs and saved the file in the CSV format, you're ready to run an import. To get started, from the Main Menu, go to Import and then follow the instructions below.

  1. Under Select Report Type, click on the template you want to import to select it.

  2. Click the Upload File button and select the CSV file that you want to upload.

  3. Click Next Step.

  4. Preview Import allows you to verify that the report is correct by displaying the first ten rows of your file. Below that you will see validation of header, file structure and type which will alert you to some common issues. If necessary, make corrections to your CSV file based on the preview and validation and re-upload it before proceeding.

  5. Click on Import to begin the upload.

Congratulations! Once you've clicked Import you will see a display confirming the status of your import and verifying that it is complete.

To download a previous import:

  1. Go to the Import History tab.

  2. Click the arrow download icon under the Downloads column.
